An anonymous call from a member of the public telling police the whereabouts of wanted man Aaron Jenkins following a media appeal resulted in him being arrested promptly and being sentenced to two months' imprisonment.
Jenkins, aged 24, of Peterborough Road, Carshalton, was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Friday, 11 March.
Jenkins, aged 24, of Peterborough Road, Carshalton, was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Friday, 11 March.
Two days earlier, police in Sutton had issued an appeal for information about the whereabouts of Jenkins who had evaded police and was believed to have gone into hiding in the borough.
Jenkins was wanted for breaching a restraining order on his former girlfriend - aged in her 20s - an offence for which he was arrested on Christmas Eve 2015. He was then bailed to appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 6 January but failed to appear.
But within hours of the police appeal, officers received information about his whereabouts and he was arrested.
The restraining order had been issued by Wimbledon Magistrates' Court in July 2015 when Jenkins received a six weeks' prison sentence for an offence outside the address of his former girlfriend, where he had made threats against her, in January 2015.
Det Insp James Carrington, of Sutton's Community Safety Unit, said: "This response from the public just confirms to us that Sutton residents share our intolerance of violent and threatening behaviour, particularly in a vulnerable scenario like this.
"Time and again, the public help us to bring offenders to justice and without them we couldn't do what we do: keeping Sutton one of the safest boroughs in London."
