The 3-1 victory sits alongside two previous draws but it was earned the hard way as it was the hosts which opened the scoring - the first goal the Robins had conceded after 211 minutes of league play.
“It was a difficult game played on a tricky surface,” said Carshalton boss Stuart Massey. “We’re building a footballing side and Walton were certainly the most physical team we’ve faced to date, so to respond the way we did was pleasing.”
New boy Jamal Alexander drew Carshalton level with a thunderous drive on 44 minutes but Massey says his half-time team talk would not have changed even if his side was trailing.
“I got after a few of the lads in the dressing room but we didn’t really need to make any radical changes,” he said. “I asked them to steel themselves a bit more and I was chuffed with their response.”
Sub Mickel Miller put the Robins ahead with 15 minutes to go and midfielder Rob Carrick sealed the points in added time, although there was some initial confusion over whether it was the midfielder's goal.
A Walton defender seemingly cleared Carrick's effort off the line and Scott side-footed the ball back in to make sure of a goal, but the linesman had already signalled that the original shot had gone in.
"It would've been nice for Paul to have got one but Rob's shot did cross the line. It certainly made the last 10 seconds of the game more comfortable anyway!" laughed Massey, who reserved more praise for some of his forward line.
“Paul worked hard, set up the second and took some lumps today,” he added. “He and Kingsley Aikhionbare have both led our forward line well across last week, while young Mickel is becoming a real fixture of the squad.”
Carshalton’s next game is a visit from Worthing at Colston Avenue on Tuesday 19th August, kick-off 7.45pm.
