Sutton Common Rovers 2 - Knaphill 1
Goals from Arnold Okiror and Francois Gabbidon gave the Sutton Common Rovers first team a 2-1 win over a good Knaphill side on Monday night, writes Gary Brigden SCR overcame the blow of conceeding a penalty after only 26 seconds, and trailing after only a minute. Knaphill had much the better of the opening exchanges, but SCR slowly got into the game, and when Liam Holden and Arnold Okiror beat the offside trap, Okiror was on hand to level the scores on 18 minutes. Both sides had chances, but it wasn't until the 57th minute that SCR took the lead, when a great Richie Smith cross was headed home by Francois Gabbidon. That there was no further scoring was due in large parts to some excellent goalkeeping by Leigh Bowden and Knaphills Richard Shelley. Carshalton Athletic's unbeaten run came to end on Tuesday night by virtue of one goal in Dorking, writes James Barrett Cheam Ladies (2) 2 Purley Walcountians Ladies (1s) 0
Cheam were quietly optimistic and feeling a little bit feisty after a great performance the previous week resulted in only a point before their match with Purley Walcountians, writes Rachel Maloney. The back line maintained discipline from the first whistle, with Jacko and Kirsty cutting short any attempts down the wing. Aside from one break down the left wing, which required a clearance from Doak and Maloney’s cheeky save off the line from the rebound, defence had everything under control. Cheam conceded a couple of short corners, with the attempts at goal calmly put aside by Kirsty and Toni. Aside from going into half time goaless, it was only a matter of time before Cheam’s efforts would be rewarded with goals goals goals. Cheam maintained their concentration and discipline in the second half, there were a couple of chances that slipped past the opposition post and a scrappy attempt five minutes into the second half saw a 4-body pile up in the opposition D. It was Kat’s hassling of the keeper that created the first goal for Cheam as she slotted it into the corner on a rebound. An excellent ball from Jacko in Cheam’s 25 found Hannah deep in PW’s half, resulting in an epic 1:1 with the keeper and a fantastic second goal. 2-0. Next week we face Camberley away, a tough fixture. For all of the details about the club's activities go to HOCKEY Sutton United 3 Havant & Waterlooville 0
Sutton transferred their recent impressive away form to Gander Green Lane on Saturday, ending a run of three home games without a win in convincing style against a Havant side who had shown signs of improvement in recent weeks after two victories, but who were as anaemic as any side to have visited Sutton this season as Ross Worner's biggest problem was how to stay warm during his lengthy spells of inactivity on by far the coldest day of the season so far. A resilient display at Jubilee Field saw Carshalton Athletic record their sixth straight league win, putting us into fourth place in the league, writes James Barrett Cheam Hockey men's first team manged to pull together a lucky 13 in their latest match and there was a "magic" seven goals for the men's third team.
Sutton & Epsom 20 – 3 Dover
For the second home game in a row Sutton played the bottom club in the league after a victory away against their closest title rivals the previous Saturday. It may have been unsurprising that they maintained the lead in London One South with a win over Dover but it was by no means a formality. |
