A stunning 25-yard strike by Bedsente Gomis with six minutes to go decided a friendly that was a credit to both teams given the sweltering conditions. Sutton, who were without Dan Wishart due to work commitments, deserved the victory after creating more chances, but a goalless draw seemed an inevitable outcome when Gomis, one of seven second half substitutes for Sutton, created some space outside the penalty area and hit a shot that flew past Colum McAdam, who had only just replaced Kleton Perntreou in the Palace goal. Before half time Perntreou saved from Ross Stearn and Craig Eastmond, while Jamie Collins headed over from a free kick. Either side of half time U's were twice penalised for handball on the edge of the penalty area, but Noor Husin was unable to test Ross Worner on either occasion. A total of fifteen substitutions in the space of 22 second half minutes affected the fluency of the game, but the last ten minutes then proved the most exciting of the afternoon as Collins had a header blocked on the line before Gomis produced the decisive strike. Almost immediately Palace could have equalised when Kieran Flanagan volleyed over from just inside the penalty area, but U's held on to claim the victory. Sutton: Ross Worner, Dan Spence (sub Simon Downer 65), Shaun Cooper, Dean Beckwith(sub Louis John 65), Craig Eastmond(sub Jack Doherty 57), Jamie Collins, Roarie Deacon(sub Craig Dundas 65), Nicky Bailey(sub Kevin Amankwaah H-T), Ryan Burge, Dan Fitchett(sub Bedsente Gomis 57), Ross Stearn(sub Bradley Hudson-Odoi H-T).
