Beddington 195 (Moolman 99)
Reigate Priory 196-3 (Oliver 85)
Reigate Priory won by 7 wickets
Beddington’s total was their highest for several weeks but was still unlikely to be enough to ruffle the feathers of such a strong Priory line-up – and so it proved.
Beddington had lost 2 wickets before reaching twenty but then followed a gritty stand 92 between Dave White and Kyle Moolman. These two steadied the ship admirably with Moolman scoring freely off the back foot and White stolidly keeping up an end. The running between the wickets was excellent. With neither looking like being out, it came as something of a surprise when White 9(34) edged to Oliver at slip and was caught with the total on 108.
Arun Butler joined Moolman and these two put on 29 before Butler was caught and bowled by leg-spinner Dahl who was turning the ball considerably. Thereafter, there was the usual procession of wickets with 3 wickets falling for just 7 runs. Dahl continued to spin the ball and wickets continued to fall. In the meantime, though, Moolman had moved on to 99 but with his century beckoning, he popped a return catch to Beaven. Beddington had looked like posting a more challenging total but when only 2 players make any kind of significant contribution, this is made more difficult.
Beddington opened up with the reliable Cummins at one end and the spin of Moolman at the other. After a maiden over from Cummins, came the fireworks. Oli Hairs hit 40 off Moolman’s 2 overs including 5 huge sixes. Dan Lewis replaced Moolman and in his first over had Hairs magnificently caught low down at slip by Tommy Roy.
In his next over, Lewis had Bradley Scriven trapped LBW but that was to be Beddington’s last success for a while. Richard Oliver, who had scored a century at Beddington earlier in the season, and Chris Murtagh comfortably took the score to 160 before Oliver missed a Chmielinski full-toss and was bowled. Jack Rogerson bowled a tidy spell of off-spin but Murtagh (47*) and Delmont (13*) saw Priory home.
Next week Beddington have their final “time” game of the season away at Wimbledon.
