In the pouring rain, Cheam Ladies first team were slow to start the first half, writes Alice Lovett.
Defence stood strong and held out what felt like 20 short corners but other than that I have forgotten what happened. ...sorry if I have done any amazing skills a mis-justice of not being mentioned!
The second half became a completely different game. Cheam took it by the scruff of the neck and the whole team pushed up, creating too much pressure for Woking to handle. Kat slipped the first goal past the keeper and jess scored a delightful second. Woking did eventually get one into the net, despite Serena having two or three go's at pushing the ball over the bar.
Bank M3s 6 - 5 Cheam M3s
It had to happen some time for Cheam Mens third team as they fought to hold on to an unbeaten run. It's just a shame it happened the way it did, writes Dom Beales
5-2 up with 20 minutes to go, this should have been three points, but the Cheam backline had a real off-day, and James Morris' hat-trick heroics were overshadowed but a tonne of other incidents.
In a morning which saw five separate torrential downpours in 70 minutes, we walked away from a pulsating game of hockey soaked, and feeling like it was a day where everything that could have gone wrong, did.
A day to forget, but thankfully followed up with a fine early-morning win at Wanderers the following week.
Cheam Hunters 2 - 5 Aldershot & Farnham Cannons
On the back of two back to back wins, Cheam Hunters arrived at a very wet Nonsuch with a bare 11 but full of confidence ready to take on physical Aldershot and Farnham Cannons Team, writes Mario Luis.
A&F Cannons took an early lead after some confusion in the area and went 1-0 up with a simple tap in. Shortly after A&F Cannons were awarded a short corner. Captain Scott took a nasty deflection of the hit onto his forehead. The match stopped as Scott got medical attention and then had to be driven to A&E. Neil Weston, despite playing earlier for the 4s came on (with complete blessing from the opposition).
Cheam regrouped and pulled Derry back into defence to cover Scott. Despite having a bare 11 against a squad of 13, Cheam pulled one back with Goldie getting on the score sheet with some beautiful passing play. 1-1 at half time.
Cheam came out fighting in the second half and Ian Renyolds finished another well rounded move to put Cheam 2-1 up. A&F Cannons came back and made it 2-2 with another well rehearsed Short Corner routine. A&F overloaded us on the next counter attack and made it 3-2 with an excellent team move of their own.
With tired legs of 11, Cheam started to struggle against a squad of 13 and eventually went 5-2 down.
Cheam L3s 3 - 2 London Edwardians L4s
Undeterred by the conditions Cheam Ladies third team started the game on the attack and soon took the lead on 10 minutes, writes Paula Dormer.
A nice passing move down our right led to the ball coming to Louisa on the left side of the D who shot into the net.
We then had a number of further chances to increase our lead, only to be pegged back by an equaliser half way trough the first half. That only seemed to spur us on as we regained the lead a few minutes later when Maz finished off another lovely move down the left with a crisp shot against the back board. 2-1 up at the half time whistle.
With the rain continuing to pour down the second half was end to end with both sides having chances to score. Our defence was particularly strong on short corners, repelling the opposition a number of times.
We then scored from one of our own short corners: Laura injected to Quayle, whose shot was saved by the keeper only for Laura, arriving at the near post, to hit the rebound into the goal. Chances came and went for both sides after that until the opposition scored with 16 minutes left after a well worked short conner routine (the only one that got the better of us.)
The team then held out fairly easily for the duration of the game until the last two minutes when we had to face two short corners in quick succession. Emily saved the first attempt with a flying save to her right: the second was repelled by the concerted efforts of the whole defence. 3-2 to Cheam at the final whistle.
Thanks Doug for umpiring in the wet and well done to all the ladies for a well deserved win.
