An entertaining match on Monday at Gander Green Lane in the Ryman Youth League Central Division
was decided in the 85th minute as Woking took home three points in the game against Sutton United youth team.
The visitors got off to a perfect start as Josh Greenleaf found himself unmarked three yards out from a corner and powered a header past Sandile Wydler-Manzi. Greenleaf was then denied a second with a well-struck free-kick which Wydler-Manzi did well to push around the post, then at the other end Darnell Austin’s free-kick resulted in a corner that eventually made its way back to Austin and his long-range strike went wide.
Woking continued to pepper the Sutton goal with efforts from range but Wydler-Manzi stood firm under pressure. Sutton gradually came back into the game though and good work from Andrius Lucauskas resulted in his low cross somehow being diverted away from Josh Danquah at the far post. Danquah then skipped around his marker and saw his low cross diverted into the side netting by Tobi Adaje, and Kieran Rhule’s strike from 20 yards drifted harmlessly wide, but in the 34th minute Austin’s free-kick squirmed through the keeper’s arms and came off the far post before nestling in the back of the net. Jamie Blanco was next to test the keeper as his free-kick was awkwardly saved at the second attempt and on the stroke of half-time, intricate play on the edge of the visitors’ penalty area led to Lucauskas touching through to Danquah but he could only fire wide under pressure.
