Limited Overs – 50
Beddington –164 - 10 (42.3 overs)
Normandy – 168– 5 (39 overs)
Normandy won by 5 wickets
But alas this was not to be. In the space of 7 balls Beddington lost 4 wickets for 2 runs and the tide had changed. Ryan Cummins did his best to salvage something along with Arun Butler but it was really too little too late and the Beddington innings closed after only 42.3 of the 50 overs with the total on 164.
To get anything out of this game, Beddington needed to strike early and probably more than once. And with the score on 26 Sam Owen took a superb slip catch to remove Howard Grice. Only 3 runs later Ollie Batchelor was caught by White off Bevan to give Beddington a glimmer of hope. But Ian Prowse and Jamie Gibson, Normandy overseas player, had other ideas and a stand of 103 took Normandy to within sight of the Beddington’s total.
Enter John Rogerson Beddington’s new signing from Mitcham. Rogerson came on to bowl his off breaks and first of all got a ball to Prowse to ‘pop’ and White took a simple catch. The very next ball saw Nathan Sowter, a Middlesex County Player, bowled neck and crop and with 4 wickets down and 33 runs still needed all was not completely lost. Cummins returned to the attack and soon had the wicket of Frost. However, that was to be the end of Beddington’s little surge. For the most part Beddington bowled pretty well but against strong opposition higher totals than today are going to be required.
Next week Beddington are at home to Guildford.
