Beddington 125 (34.5 overs)
Sunbury 126-6 (35.1 overs)
Sunbury won by 4 wkts.
In yet another rain-affected game, Beddington, of their own choice, found themselves batting first.
An early lunch was taken at 1.00 p.m. and when play started again the game was reduced to 96 overs of which Beddington could bat for 54. After the break, both Bevan and Butler were hitting the ball well, completing a fifty partnership. But when Bevan tried to clear mid-wicket off Stanier, he didn’t get quite enough of the ball and was duly caught. Just a few balls later, Kyle Moolman was bowled playing back to the off-spinner Virdi and just moments later Butler was LBW to Stanier.
So 87-2 had become 88-5 and once again Beddington were struggling to put together a score which the bowlers might be able to defend. Tommy Roy was looking in good nick until he got what appeared to be an unlikely LBW to a ball from Virdi which turned almost square with the wicket! Seb Chmielinski was also looking in good form until he was yorked by Stanier. Ando so once again the Beddington batting had crumbled with Adam Stanier taking 5-25.
One would not have expected high-flying Sunbury to struggle to reach such a low total but Beddington started determinedly and runs came very slowly. With the score on only 5 Kevin Smith was bowled by Ryan Cummins and this brought Adam London to the wicket to join Maunders. These two took the score into the forties by which time Jack Rogerson had replaced Bevan. London was LBW to Cummins and then Rogerson appeared to have Maunders brilliantly caught in the slips by Bevan but because Maunders justifiably stood his ground, the umpires bizarrely decided that there had been a bump ball.
No mind, Maunders did not last long after this event, being also LBW to Cummins with the score on 55. Rogerson then removed Bedi and with the score on 60-4, there was just the slightest glimmer of a hope that Beddington could get right back into this game. But Sam Burgess (39) and Nathaniel Gregory (20) had different ideas and these two took Sunbury to within 17 of the required total before Gregory was caught by Butler off Rogerson and then 10 runs later Burgess fell to Bevan. With just 6 runs needed Hughes did the honours with one shot.
Next week Beddington are at home against Normandy.
