Sutton United 2 Truro City 2
A tempestuous and controversial game at Gander Green Lane on Monday ended all square when a misjudgement by goalkeeper Ross Worner three minutes in to injury time allowed a header from Truro defender Arran Pugh in to the net and gave the Cornish side a point.
Dan Fitchett gave U's the lead after just 40 seconds, but Truro equalised following the first of a number of contentious decisions as Worner was adjudged to have fouled Isaac Vassell and Shane White netted the penalty. A superb second goal by Fitchett restored U's lead just before the hour, but U's had Jamie Collins sent off for a second booking fifteen minutes from time when referee Elliott Kaye decided he had taken too long over a free kick.
Vassell was also sent off when he picked up a second yellow card for simulation in an incident that looked more of a penalty than the one that was given, and Worner made two brilliant saves to keep U's in front before the final cruel twist. It was an entertaining game in front of a big crowd, but unfortunately the major topic of discussion after the game was the refereeing, with nine players booked before Collins and Vassell were sent off.
Tom Bolarinwa was missing from the squad after his wife gave birth this week, and we send the family our best wishes. Meanwhile Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick is to go on loan for a month to Tonbridge Angels, managed by former Sutton coach Steve McKimm who was at the game tonight.
