· Nerve compression syndromes, including Cubital and carpal tunnel syndromes when nerves get trapped at the wrist or elbow.
· Thumb base arthritis, where wear and tear at the joint at the base of the thumb causes pain and sometimes deformity at this joint.
· Trigger fingers, a condition where the tendons that bend the fingers get caught in the palm of the hand causing pain or triggering.
· Dupuytren’s disease - a benign condition that causes contractures of the digits.
· Tennis and golfers elbow, a condition where the tendinous attachment of the muscles of the forearm become inflamed on the inside and outside of the elbow.
· Ganglia of the hand and wrist, which are fluid filled swellings that arise from the tendon sheaths or underlying joints.
· Wrist and hand fractures including the distal radius and the scaphoid.
· Tendonitis, including De Quervain’s where the tendons become inflamed as they pass through narrow tunnels around the wrist and hand.
Paul is a consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with a special interest in hand and wrist surgery. He is an honours graduate in Neurobiology and graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1990.
He completed his post-graduate training in London and completed a hand fellowship at East Grinstead in the department of plastic surgery. Since becoming a consultant in 2002 he has gained extensive experience in the field of hand and wrist surgery.
He has also been the clinical lead for the Orthopaedic Department in Kingston Hospital between 2006 and 2009. Since 2010 he has been an examiner with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His new clinic at Spire St Anthony’s Hospital complements his well-established practice at nearby hospitals which have been running since 2002.
