Carshalton's Queen Elizabath's Foundation for Disabled People has holding an open morning to help people discover all the amazing services QEF offer to disabled children from two years old, disabled adults and the elderly.
The Care Leavers Association (CLA) has been funded by the Department of Health to work on a project to improve the health of care leavers. To do this the CLA are working with Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG's) to make them better informed about the health needs of care leavers.
Once they have built up a good information bank they will be helping those CCG's to develop resources to commission more effective health services. You can read more about the project at CARE As part of the project the CLA are going to establish three user led health forums. They will meet six times over the next 2 years. They are looking for up to 12 people to attend in each area. The first meetings will be held in Manchester 8th December, London 10th December and Birmingham 15th December. Currently the meetings times would be either in the afternoon, 2-4 or early evening 6-8. The CLA would like to invite care leavers to come along to the forums and talk about their own experiences in relation to health. Travel expenses will be paid to attend the forums. If you are interested in attending please email [email protected] with your name, age, where you live, which forum you can attend and if you would prefer afternoon or evening. There are currently 17 places left for those wishing to take part in the trial of the Avatar Project.
The Avatar Project is a new system designed to help people who hear voices by creating a computer simulation that the person can interact with. Pilot studies have shown good results and the South West London and St Georges Mental Health Trust has now been chosen to test this new therapy. The assessments and therapies take place at Kings College London in Camberwell and the SHARP clinic in Brixton. Transport costs can be arranged and reimbursed. For more information about the trial please contact Neisha Rhule on 0203 513 6255 or 0790 882 9234 or email her at: [email protected] Sutton Council is encouraging more borough residents to get tested for HIV, as part of National HIV Testing Week, which runs until 27 November.
Have you heard of TTIP? If you haven't then Sutton Keep Our NHS Public is screening a film and holding a discussion on the subject.
TTIP is the U.S./E.U. trade deal being negotiated right now that will potentially affect many aspects of all of our lives (including working conditions, public services, environmental protections & food standards)," said a spokesperson. Sutton Keep Our NHS Public are organising a free screening of the film The Trouble With TTIP (approx 1hr) and a Q&A/discussion led by Linda Kaucher about the possible implications of the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership trade agreements, and what canbe done to put a stop to them. Linda Kaucher has been researching EU 'trade' agreements, of which TTIP (US/EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) is now the main focus, for 15 years. With London antiTTIP activists, she works to expose and oppose the EU's 'trade' agenda. Details 'THE TROUBLE WITH TTIP' FILM SHOW Friday 4 December 2015 Doors open at 1900. Film starts at 1930. End time 21.30. Friends Meeting House, 10 Cedar Road, Sutton SM2 5DA There is limited seating of 70. Please book a place at TTIP Pharmacists across Sutton have been reminding residents about the range of services available in local pharmacies during Ask Your Pharmacist Week this November.
Often, people make unnecessary trips to the GP or even A&E, when the neighbourhood pharmacy could help instead. The Chief Executive of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust has issued a statement following the announcement of potential industrial action by junior doctors.
“Following the junior doctors’ ballot on industrial action, we wanted to assure local people that we are working hard to make sure any disruption to services is kept to a minimum, wherever possible,"Chief Executive Daniel Elkeles, said on the Trust's website. “We are currently working to fully understand the potential impact of any industrial action and put appropriate plans in place. As such, we can’t provide more information at this time but will, of course, be making appropriate announcements as the situation develops.” Staff at Epsom and St Helier hospitals have been honoured with a special award in recognition of delivering excellent care and inspiring leadership.
It was smiles all round at Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children recently, as the Chief Superintendent of Merton Police hand-delivered an electric car and a bumper collection of toys for the young patients.
