Local people joined Tom Brake in the call to stop the stigma of mental health. Throughout the day, Tom and local activists collected over 100 signatures for the campaign, distributed hundreds of leaflets and spoke to many residents about their experience in accessing mental health.
Research shows that one in four of us will suffer from mental health problems at some point in our lives.
Tom said: “I believe mental health should never be stigmatised and should be taken just as seriously as physical health. I am determined to tackle mental health stigma and ensure people can access the help and support they need. Liberal Democrats are introducing the first-ever waiting time standards for mental health treatment next year.”
Mental health services often lose out locally in allocating funding. Liberal Democrats in government are pledging an extra £1 billion a year for the NHS in the next parliament, with half a billion dedicated to improving mental health care.
