The new room, which was created thanks to a £5,000 donation from the hospital’s dedicated charity the League of Friends, comes complete with comfortable chairs, foot rests, new flooring and new lighting.
Head of Midwifery, Sally Sivas, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to the League of Friends for yet another wonderful donation. Their generosity has allowed us to convert an area of the ward that wasn’t being used into a welcoming environment away from the hustle and bustle of the busy department.
“The new room is so bright that it’s been dubbed ‘the sunshine room’ and is already proving to be a hit with our patients.”
General manager of maternity services, Steve Simper said: “We know that once our patients are well enough to be discharged, they are usually really keen to get back to the comfort of their own home. Unfortunately, there can sometimes be a bit of a delay as our patients wait for a lift, but we hope our new ‘sunshine room’ will provide an ideal waiting area. We are incredibly proud of our new room and hope that our patients continue to enjoy it.”
Val Brundle, the Chair of the League of Friends said: “We will always do what we can to make sure our patients are as comfortable as they can be during a stay at our hospitals, and are always pleased to help.”
