Patient Online, a healthcare initiative which allows people to book GP appointments and request repeat prescriptions online, is being offered by GP practices in Sutton.
You can access this service from your computer, smartphone or tablet, meaning you no longer have to call or visit your GP practice to carry out routine tasks such as booking appointments or requesting repeat prescriptions
Online services do not replace traditional ways of contacting your GP - over the phone or in person. They simply offer additional ways to interact, making it easier and more convenient for you.
In return, it's hoped the services will free up phone lines for people who don’t have internet access, and enable GP practices to manage appointments and telephone calls more efficiently.
Dr Chris Elliott, local GP and Chief Clinical Officer for NHS Sutton CCG said: ‘‘Patient Online enables patients to take greater control of their health and wellbeing by allowing them to book appointments or request repeat prescriptions - as agreed with their GP, online. This is more convenient for people and means that you don’t have to spend time on the phone to the surgery or visiting in person. GPs in Sutton are encouraging their patients to sign up and give the new service a go.”
Michael Pitcher, a local Cheam patient said: “This is a really helpful service, it makes total sense to be able to book appointments online and order repeat prescriptions agreed with your doctor. Nowadays we are used to going online for all sorts of things - so why not GP appointments? I can now book any time of day or night seven days a week. Previously I always had to try and get through to the practice by telephone either early morning or on a lunch break. But now it is much more convenient as I can do it at a time that suits me. It is quick and easy to use, and there’s plenty of choice of appointment times, and more often than not I can book to see the doctor I want to see at a time to suit me. I will definitely be using this service in the future”.
“If more people book on line, then it will be easier for those patients who need to telephone the surgery to get through and speak to a receptionist, so everyone wins.”
