Sutton GPs are reminding residents of the of ‘One You’; a new public health campaign supporting adults in choosing to lead healthier lifestyles and reduce their risk of developing long-term conditions in the future.
Without knowing it, by the time they reach our 40’s and 50’s, many people have dramatically increased their chances of becoming ill later in life – be it through smoking, drinking too much alcohol, following a bad diet or being a bit of a couch potato. All these things can add up to being an unhealthy you. This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is focused on relationships. Good relationships help us live longer and happier lives with fewer physical and mental health problems. These are the supportive connections we share with friends, family and our community -investing in these relationships is critical to our health and wellbeing. South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) will be partnering with charity Think Ahead to provide on-the-job training for highly talented graduates to become mental health social workers.
SWLSTG is one of 16 mental health services that have been selected to pioneer a new approach to improve support for people with mental illness. Over 23 graduates applied for each place on the programme, which is supported by £12m from the Department of Health. South West London and St Georges Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) is pleased to welcome Vanessa Ford as the new Director of Nursing and Quality. Vanessa has worked as deputy to the Executive Director of Nursing across two mental health trusts and at board level. Chief Executive David Bradley said: “We are delighted to welcome Vanessa to the Trust. Her skills and experience will be indispensable in taking our organisation into the next stage of its journey. She is a highly motivated clinician with a reputation for driving positive change and I am sure she will make a fantastic contribution to the leadership team and to the Board.” Staff in the Maternity Unit at Epsom Hospital are enjoying a treat for their taste buds after receiving a very special ‘thank you’ gift from some first-time parents. Following the birth of their son James, Anna and Michael Davis delivered a very special ‘thank you’ to the team – a gift basket full of chocolate weighing 9lbs 14oz, equivalent to the birth weight of baby James. Mairead Faughnan, Lead Midwife for Inpatient Services, said: ‘“It is always a great pleasure for us to be part of such an exciting time for a family, especially when they have the joy of welcoming their first child. James was a very healthy weight when he arrived, something which my colleagues and I are particularly grateful for, as we now have a rather lovely selection of chocolate to enjoy! “On behalf of all the team, I’d like to say a big thank you to Anna and Michael. We were all very touched to receive such a thoughtful present from them – it is such a lovely gesture and making the gift the same weight as James when he arrived made it extra special.”’ Healthwatch Sutton Annual General Meeting
