A new scame has been identified and so the latest warning from Sutton police is - be wary of accepting any "surprise gift or package," which you neither expected nor personally ordered, especially if it involves any kind of payment as a condition of receiving the gift or package. Also, never accept anything if you do not personally know or there is no proper identification of who the sender is.
Sutton campaigner and Labour capital-wide Candidate for the Greater London Assembly, Emily Brothers has criticised this week’s rail fare increases.
She said: “Getting to work shouldn’t be a luxury, but that is fast becoming a reality for Sutton commuters with fares increasing every year, without fail, for eight years. “I’m really concerned that over the last 8 years to travel from Sutton to Central London costs £3,168 more for most Sutton commuters. At best from the few Zone 4 stations in the borough, like Worcester Park, the increase has been £2,730 over the same period. “It's a rip-off. Fares go up, but services are still poor. It doesn't feel like value for money to Sutton’s commuters. “Even worse, some have to choose between getting to work and putting food on the table by month's end. That can't be right. That’s why Labour will freeze all TfL fares - including bus, Tube and Overground - for four years at 2016 prices and introduce a new one-hour 'Hopper' bus ticket allowing multiple journeys in 60 minutes.” A 42-year-old woman whose Rottweiler pinned another dog walker up against fencing at the entrance to Royston Park, Sutton, has been issued with a Dog Control Order.
The owner of the Rottweiler is required to comply with eight conditions to keep her dog under proper control or run the risk of it being destroyed or a fine imposed. The black and tan dog called Yogi was off the lead when it ran at a female dog walker at an entrance to Royston Park on Thursday, 10 September at 18:30hrs. Yogi pushed her up against fencing and attacked her dog. Yogi's owner appeared and said: 'He's only a puppy and doesn't know how to play'. The victim picked up her dog and left. Police also received a report of an incident on Monday, 20 July at around 19:00hrs when a dog called Yogi bit another dog after taking it by the scruff of the neck at Royston Park. Two males who were with Yogi explained: 'Don't worry, he's just playing.' The Dog Control Order was brought by PC Heath Keogh, of Sutton Police Station, who runs the LEAD initiative to encourage responsible ownership of all breeds of dogs and to tackle anti-social and inconsiderate behaviour by individuals with dogs in a way that protects and reassures the public. PC Keogh stated that without preventative measures being put in place, he was concerned that this dog could cause serious injury. At Croydon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 9 December, the woman, who lives in Sutton, was ordered to keep her dog under proper control including keeping the dog on a lead and muzzled in public as well as to be neutered and micro-chipped by the end of February 2016. Images of two men wanted by Sutton borough for burglary are highlighted amongst a number of suspects wanted by the Metropolitan Police Service.
