The teams at David Weir Leisure Centre, The Phoenix Centre and Westcroft Leisure Centre were all nominated for the coveted Health Club Awards.
The Health Club Awards recognise the best clubs and leisure centres in the UK based purely on ratings from their members. The criteria measures the quality of facilities, customer service and value for money.
In the ‘Best Mid-Market Club’ in the south east category David Weir Leisure Centre in Carshalton achieved second place and Westcroft Leisure Centre, also in Carshalton, was awarded third place.
The results were announced at the fourth annual awards ceremony held on 30 September at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham. Sutton’s leisure centres were among 143 health clubs from across the UK to be shortlisted.
Everyone Active run four leisure centres on behalf of Sutton Council as part of wider programme to improve health of everyone in the borough. This has become particularly important since the council assumed the responsibility for public health.
Colin Stears, Vice Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board, said:
“The people using our sports centres are saying they are among the best. They have really good facilities and the staff are brilliant. I hope this encourages more people to get the health benefits from getting fitter. Congratulations to all the Everyone Active team.”
Mark Basker, Everyone Active Contract Manager, said:
“We are really proud of our staff and their achievements as there is no better endorsement for a centre than from the customers who are using them. On a personal note I would also like to thank all my colleagues for all their hard work and dedication that has brought the centres this success.”
