Ms Brothers, who is a cardiology patient at St Helier Hospital following her triple heart bypass surgery shortly after last year’s General Election campaign, said:
“Junior doctors at St Helier Hospital provide much respected healthcare to local people, but they are being placed under more and more strain as a result of the Government’s under-investment in our NHS.
“The need for today’s strike is a real disappointment, including to junior doctors themselves, but it’s little surprise that we have come to this point.
“In London we’ve seen the strain the NHS is under with over 10,000 nursing vacancies, A&E waiting time targets missed and doctors under immense pressure. I urge the Government to heed the concerns of junior doctors at St Helier Hospital and for both sides to go back to sincere negotiations.”
