Cheam were quietly optimistic and feeling a little bit feisty after a great performance the previous week resulted in only a point before their match with Purley Walcountians, writes Rachel Maloney.
The back line maintained discipline from the first whistle, with Jacko and Kirsty cutting short any attempts down the wing. Aside from one break down the left wing, which required a clearance from Doak and Maloney’s cheeky save off the line from the rebound, defence had everything under control.
Cheam conceded a couple of short corners, with the attempts at goal calmly put aside by Kirsty and Toni.
Aside from going into half time goaless, it was only a matter of time before Cheam’s efforts would be rewarded with goals goals goals.
Cheam maintained their concentration and discipline in the second half, there were a couple of chances that slipped past the opposition post and a scrappy attempt five minutes into the second half saw a 4-body pile up in the opposition D.
It was Kat’s hassling of the keeper that created the first goal for Cheam as she slotted it into the corner on a rebound. An excellent ball from Jacko in Cheam’s 25 found Hannah deep in PW’s half, resulting in an epic 1:1 with the keeper and a fantastic second goal. 2-0.
