Struggling to fill the 11 positions on the pitch, the men's section stepped up and the Men's 1s managed to have an appropriate 13 on the day, writes William Lindsay.
Cheam took a welcome lead in the first half, going into the second half with a two goal to nil lead. This was accomplished by a fantastic far post finish courtesy of Higgo.
In the second half, the Cheam group, not wanting to dissapoint, stepped back and let in two goals for the oppo.
Luckily Willy was on hand to mesmerise the defence in the attacking D and let Will Gault take his first goal of the season.
Teddington 6s 2 - 3 Cheam Hunters
After a humbling defeat the previous week, Cheam Hunters traveled to Teddington for a mid table battle, writes Mario Louis.
Early on, the Hunters hit their opposition with pace and controlled possession. After a run through the oppositions entire right side defence, Rueben slid a ball into a well positioned Nathan on the back post to give the Hunters a 1-0 lead. The Hunters won countless short corners but could't convert any and didn't manage to add to the score before half time.
Despite being in control the Hunters lost some defensive concentration and let the opposition get men free on two occasions for two simple finishes. Teddington went into half time 2-1 up.
The second half started and the Hunters came out fighting again. Despite having the ball in the opposition half 90% of the time, another 15 short corners the Hunters still couldn't get a break through. The Hunters goalie Frosty even mentioned he had dust growing on him in the second half.
When it looked like it would be one of those games, former Captain Charlie Weston broke through the central midfield with a dazzling run finding Derry with a pin point pass in the in the middle of the D, Derry dutifully finished to make it 2-2. With less than 10 minutes to go the Hunters smelt blood and knew it was our game to win. With three minutes to go, and at our 29th short corner attempt, the Hunters finally figured a routine that worked. Charlie once again played the ball through to Derry who found the backboard to make it 3-2.
It stayed that way and Cheam earned a very well deserved three points.
Cheam Hockey Club Men's (3) 7 Woking 5s 0
Woking certainly were no cannon-fodder, and they started brightly with some neat passing down the channels, writes Dom Beales.
The defence held a high line and kept the D untroubled with some nice early tackles. We then clicked through the gears and Jonny opened the scoring from a slightly scruffy short corner. Goalman and Fisty then decided to get involved, and we were 3 nil up by half time.
The second half was just as dominant as the first, with Goalman ending the contest shortly after the restart with our fourth goal.
