After a period of extensive consultation an exciting new project has now begun at Morden Hall Park.
As part of the Heritage Lottery Funded Living Wandle Landscape Partnership, the National Trust
have initiated work on a new boardwalk through the wetland area in the north of the park.
This autumn the National Trust will be replacing an existing gravel path with new timber boardwalk
and adding viewing and dipping platforms. This will increase habitat diversity, create a natural edge
and allow the two halves of the area to connect for the first time. Works will also be made to widen
three bridges for both public use and ease of maintenance.
This work has been made possible due to support from the SUEZ Communities Trust (formerly SITA
Trust), who are funding the boardwalks, Viridor Credits Environmental Company, through the
Landfill Communities Fund, who have funded the paths, dipping platform and interpretation, and
the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund who are providing support for the bridge
widening and tree works, creation of a viewing platform, groundworks and equipment.
It is hoped that the work will be completed by 1st November with the formal opening on 3rd
.
This work is part of the MHP Wetlands Project which holds a Wednesday wetlands volunteer group.
