Commander Mak Chishty has issued a statement urging police to remember the value of communities.
"Communities are at the heart of London; and at the heart of policing every ward, neighbourhood, and borough. Understanding what our communities need and concerns them is fundamental to the policing service we give.
This means that it is a core duty for every officer to listen to and understand those that live, work and travel in London.
Over this summer, I have asked Borough Commanders to increase their focus on the community engagement that takes place on their boroughs. London is a dynamic and vibrant city; and our communities move and change. Each week officers will be seeking out those we don't normally get the chance to speak to, alongside those who have regular contact. Your Borough Commander will be updating you every fortnight with a blog on this page.
I would encourage you to get involved; tell us who we are not talking to; your concerns and where we can help.
Please contact us with any ideas or concerns via the 'contact us' forms which are on our borough websites - see related links on this webpage. Once on your borough site, open the 'Get Involved' section via the right hand navigation and see the 'Listening for London' campaign page which contains the contact form."
