“Since the closure announcement issued by SCILL last week LBS have issued a number of communications to our clients and the media. In these communications LBS have sought to distance themselves from the closure decision. For the avoidance of doubt, the cut back by LBS of expenditure on services for the disabled community and their pursuit of a considerable rent for the SCILL centre are the principle causes for the closure. The trustees have a legal responsibility to close in an orderly manner while the charity remains solvent. It was not a decision taken lightly or hastily, but was the only decision available when no financial solution was forthcoming. LBS could have saved SCILL, they chose not to.”
