"This initiative scores a bulls-eye in terms of helping to combat loneliness and isolation," said Sgt Cole. "The ward has a high proportion of over 65s with a large number of people living in sheltered accommodation or in single occupancy flats.
"Any initiative that provides a lifeline to people who may be lonely and have no one to talk to is a great idea and deserves our full support," he said.
During the meeting, Sutton South Hello members spoke to police about their concerns about speeding traffic along Cedar Road and Brighton Road. Officers explained that they were carrying out operations to tackle these issues.
Set up in May 2013, Sutton South Hello encourages residents to say 'Hello' and be good neighbours whilst encouraging elderly people to be active in their community. Members meet at Christ Church every Wednesday between 2-4pm to take part in various activities.
