This year, there were winners in several different categories. Frank Di Lusso hairdressers won ‘Best Independent Shop,’ while Roast & Ground secured the title for ‘Best Café or Restaurant.’ The Sun won ‘Best Pub’ and this year’s ‘Overall Best Independent Business’ is the Sassis Coffee Shop.
Tom thanks the hundreds of people who showed their support for their favourite independent retailers by voting.
Regarding the competition, he commented, “Supporting and celebrating our local independent businesses is incredibly important. Carshalton and Wallington is lucky to have so many wonderful independent retailers, and this competition is a way of letting them know that we appreciate their hard work. I would like to congratulate all of the winners of the 2014 Independent Business Competition and wish their businesses every success in the future.”
Sassis Coffee Shop is in North Street in Carshalton. It is a coffee and sandwich bar that offers paninis made to order and baguettes baked on site.
Frank Di Lusso’s is located on the High Street in Carshalton, just opposite the junction with Carshalton Place and offers a complete salon experience.
Roast & Ground, also located on Carshalton High Street, was also a winner last year – showing just how much residents love this local business.
The Sun, on North Street in Carshalton, is a historic pub that first opened in 1866 and was restored in 2009.
Independent local businesses play an important role in helping to maintain a vibrant identity in Carshalton and Wallington. The enthusiastic response to Tom Brake MP’s competition shows how important they are to the local community.
The owner of Sassis, and one of the people who nominated his business, will be going up to Westminster for dinner with Tom.
