The CPFC Foundation will work with Sutton Council on a three-year programme, key elements of which include:
-Combining sport and physical activity with healthy lifestyles education to year five & six pupils in 30 primary schools,
-Increasing the provision of affordable out of school activities including new football development centres,
-Supporting ten new early morning breakfast clubs to provide additional physical activity but also address concerns around lateness and punctuality,
-Building on our work to engage young people at the Sutton Life Centre where we can show a track record of young people we first engaged with as participants, now working for the foundation as community coaches and youth workers.
A professional nutritionist will help ensure that the programme leads to national best practice and a board of key council officers has been brought together to support the programme. Rigorous monitoring and evaluation has also been introduced and the results of what the programme has achieved will be presented to Councillors at the end of the year.
Steve Browett, co-owner of Crystal Palace Football Club said: “It’s fantastic and forward thinking that local councils like Sutton are looking to our Foundation to help deliver their vision for the borough. Crystal Palace FC might well be in the Premier League but we are still very much a family club with deep roots in the local community. We are all passionate about Crystal Palace FC, what it stands for and how it can inspire young and old alike.”
Councillor Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council said: “This is a fantastic partnership that can provide long lasting positive results and teach our young children the fun and enjoyment that playing sport can bring. It is brilliant that we have the expertise of Crystal Palace FC on board. Together we can work to promote health and well being across the borough, educating our youngsters in making well-informed decisions in regards to their health”.
