Two former Premier League stars are teaming up in aid of The Liam Charity at their annual fundraising day in Carshalton.
Ex-Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn and former Chelsea striker, Kerry Dixon will take part in the fifth annual Special One Cup Family Fun Day at Carshalton Athletic FC’s War Memorial Ground on Saturday 4th June. The event is held in memory of 14-year-old Chelsea fanatic Liam Hearne, who tragically took his own life in October 2010. Open Space is a new drop in service for young people aged 14+ in Sutton.
It offers young people somewhere safe to talk to someone about anything that’s concerning them. There will always be a trained adult available who can listen. There is also a programme of services available including sexual health and contraception services, health advice, school pastors, young carers support, careers and apprenticeship advice and regular workshops. There is access to computers and we provide free tea and coffee. Young people are welcome to just show up; no appointment is necessary. DETAILS DAY: Every Tuesday TIME: 3.30-6.00pm VENUE: SCILL (Sutton Centre for Independent Living and Learning), 3 Robin Hood Lane, Sutton SM1 2SW The Time Out Youth Project offers activities for young people 11 - 25 years - TOYP is based at the Sutton Life Centre. Sessions run three times per week: Tuesdays 3:15 - 5:15pm; Thursdays 3:15 - 5:15pm and Fridays 6:30 - 8:45pm. Activities vary from arts & crafts, sports, homework help, health workshops and off site trips. The On The Street youth project works to help prevent anti social behavior within the borough. Working with young people within the surroundings they choose to hang out in. Various activities take place such as sports, drug & alcohol awareness, crafts and healthy food tasting. "Our Doorstep Sports Club is currently based at Sutton Life Centre. Friday evening between 7:00 - 8:30pm. DSC is a multi sports programme which runs activities such as football, tennis & table tennis and circuit workout training. This part of the youth project is to encourage young people to take part in some form of sporting/physical activity and is aimed at young people between the ages of 11 - 24 years," said a spokesperson. Details Our next young person's event is taking place on Friday 3rd June 2016 at the Riverside Centre between 6:30 - 8.30pm (50p entry fee). This session will be dedicated to multi sports and healthy cooking activities. Riverside Community Association's Willow Coffee Shop in Culvers Avenue, Carshalton is open and is going from strength to strength. Claire Long is the new Supervisor - so why not come in and say hello! "We serve deliciously home-made food at reasonable prices" explains Claire, "and the local residents have really taken to it." The Willow Coffee Shop is very proud to announce that the local Wallington and Carshalton Round Table (166) is donating a brand new gas BBQ for our use. We will be hosting a formal “handing over” event on the 13th of June explains Phil Weiss who is in charge of the Sales and Marketing. Small Charity Week is running three competitions on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to help raise the profile of small charities with cash prizes for the winners. How to enter Take a photo of yourself holding up a poster that reads: “I love (your charities name) because (why you love them)”. Then simply post it to either Twitter, Instagram or the Small Charity Week Facebook page, depending which competition you wish to participate in. Make sure you include the #ILoveSmallCharities hashtag when you post your photograph so they can track your entry. There will be loads of community organised events from fairs and carnivals to theatre shows and music events. Many of them will be great for all the family, and many of them will also be free.
