Carshalton and Wallington MP, Tom Brake, is calling on the Prime Minister to implement fairer policies for mental health. He echoes the recommendations made by Mind Briefing’s Mental Health Taskforce.
According to the Mental Health Taskforce, 75% of people with mental health issues receive no treatment at all. There is also a major treatment gap for black and ethnic minority communities.

Tom said, “We can no longer leave the most vulnerable in our society in the dark. We must provide better support for those who face mental health issues and that’s why I call on the Prime Minister to listen to the Taskforce’s recommendations and make the necessary changes so we can begin to close this gap.”
The Mental Health Taskforce has made key recommendations to the NHS and the Government. These include providing 24/7 access to mental health care for people facing a crisis and investing an additional £1 billion in mental health by 2020/21. The Taskforce also calls on the NHS to play a larger role in supporting people with mental health problems to find work through greater access to therapies and programmes that aid in getting them back to work.
