Sutton Borough showed how generous it can be when 209 presents were pledged for a child in local authority care in just eight days as part of the Met Police Christmas Tree Appeal.
This led residents to carry on giving by donating presents to children in the care of other London boroughs.
By the gift deadline of Sunday, 13 December Sutton residents had given more than 160 presents to 18 other London boroughs.
All the presents are for children up to and including the age of 17 who may not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas.
The presents have all been wrapped and are due to be distributed to children in the week running up to Christmas.
Acting Police Sergeant Barrie Walton, who has been co-ordinating the appeal in Sutton, said: "Sutton residents have been truly amazing and the response has been beyond our expectations." Safer Neighbourhoods Insp Kathy Morteo added: "We would like to thank our kind-hearted residents for supporting our Met Police Appeal."
