A crackdown on drink and drug driving by Sutton’s Safer Transport Police Officers has resulted in a 39-year-old man being disqualified from driving for three years after he was caught driving whilst unfit through drugs.
Paul James was driving his Renault car when he was stopped by officers in Middleton Road, Carshalton, on Monday, 29 February 2016.
The officers were kitted out with the very latest drug testing equipment. James tested positive for cocaine.
At Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 9 June, Paul James, (dob: 12.09.1976), of Hanworth Road, Hampton, Richmond-upon-Thames, pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit through drugs, without insurance and not in accordance with a driving licence.
In addition to being disqualified from driving for three years, James was also fined a total of £240 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
The Safer Transport officers, who are part of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, are carrying out a summer crackdown on drink and drug drivers in Sutton Borough.
