Sutton Council has approved the earlier decision for EcoLocal to continue work on The Lodge project.
"The Lodge project presents a viable opportunity to build on our existing community enterprise and create a thriving resource that meets the needs of the local community," said a statement on the organisation's website.
" Relocating from our current rented premises to The Lodge will:
- remove the need for us to pay rent and provide us with the security of permanent accommodation protecting the site from other development / use for over 100 years
- provide the scope to significantly expand our existing social enterprise activities. The Lodge is located in a high profile setting, in a well-known educational nature reserve, providing a very attractive venue for adult and children’s activities. The diversity of facilities at The Lodge (workshops, meeting rooms, community hall, classroom, offices, storage) will allow for a wide range of activities and community benefits delivered by EcoLocal as well as other local community and voluntary sector groups and residents
- enable us to start a new service hiring office, meeting room, workshop and storage space for use by other organisations and individuals at appropriate rates, providing a source of new on-going income for the charity
- allow us to rent out two residential flats, providing a source of new on-going income and ensuring the long term maintenance of the buildings."
