Following an appeal last week by the Met Police in Sutton, staff at Triangle Day Care Wallington mumerous offers for a replacement TV and Apple TV Box have been made after the centre’s were stolen during an overnight burglary in November last year. Shoppers on Sutton High Street were presented with some chilling facts about food waste with the aid of a large inflatable freezer appearing for the first time in London.
Love Food Hate Waste’s BIG Freeze event, in association with Sutton Council, aimed to inform borough residents about how they can save money and reduce food waste by keeping leftovers and certain foods in their freezers to reuse and make the most of their shopping. The average household throws out a staggering £60 of food a month, and over the course of a year that adds up to around £700. Police carried out a search warrant at a house in Avro Way, Wallington, on Thursday, 14 January at around 09:00hrs. Officers forced entry and carried out a search of the premises.
A quantity of suspected cannabis was found in the kitchen. It was seized by officers. A 21-year-old man inside the address at the time was issued with a cannabis warning. The operation was led by officers from Beddington South Safer Neighbourhoods Team supported by colleagues from Sutton North. The operation was in response to information received from the local community. Safer Neighbourhoods Inspector Ian Hicks said: "We take all reports about criminal and anti-social behaviour seriously and we hope operations like this one sends out a message that drugs will not be tolerated in Sutton borough." Police are reminding residents to be wary of callers pretending to be from utility companies who turn up unexpectedly on your doorstep asking to enter your home.
The advice follows reports of two incidents on Tuesday, 12 January when residents acted on police advice by keeping out callers who failed to produce any valid ID. Police in Sutton continue to appeal for witnesses and information after a linked series of sexual assaults. Officers are investigating three offences which they believe have been carried out by the same man.
The first incident happened on Thursday, 7 January, around 19:00hrs. A 34-year-old woman was walking along North Street, Carshalton, towards the Sun pub. Police in Sutton have received a report of Year 8 boy who was walking to school being encouraged to get into a vehicle that had pulled up alongside him in Staplehurst Road near the junction with Banstead Road on Monday, 11 January at 07:45hrs.
The male driver remained inside the car whilst he spoke to the boy. The driver told the boy that he had been asked by the boy’s mother to pick him up so he wasn’t late for school. |
